Judges

Dean Ford - Breed & Fleece

Dean Ford - Bio

Dean and his wife Jenny own and operate Vista Del Sud alpaca stud on their farm located on the banks of lake Eildon in North East Victoria.

They are focused and passionate about breeding elite grey Huacaya stud stock for the local and European market with a herd of approximately 300 alpaca.

As a team they are committed to the Australian alpaca industry, having undertaken various volunteer roles for the AAA including convening Victorian Colourbration.

Early 2015 Dean completed his AAA judging apprenticeship and loves being able to contribute to the future of our stud stock industry.

Dean possesses a passion for fibre handling and classing wool, having successfully completed his professional Wool Classer certificate in 2012 and is a registered wool classer with AWEX. From time to time he helps out classing at some local Merino studs.

In 2013 Dean assisted pilot the alpaca fibre classing within the TAFE system and successfully completed the national curriculum for classing of alpaca fibre.

Dean is the Captain of the local CFA fire brigade, which is both rewarding and challenging. He loves to get up on neighbouring Mt Buller to shred some snow on his snowboard when he can, or simply just hanging around the farm with Jenny and their herd.

General Information

Sheffield is a friendly, relaxed country show. Its ideal for new breeders to come along and meet other breeders and compete against other alpacas of the same colour.

This Colourama show has 14 Supreme Breed & 14 Supreme Fleece Trophies and Ribbons awarded if there are entries in all colours.

Fliss and I have decided to include a very special perpetual trophy for the first time at the show. The Dallas Grant Memorial Trophy, which will be awarded by the judge to the alpaca they like the most out of the Supreme Breed alpacas already awarded....  There will be a perpetual trophy and also a smaller trophy for the winner to keep...

After the show please join Barbara and myself in the tent for drinks and nibbles and take the time to have a chat to the judge...

Barbara and I look forward to seeing you at the show on Saturday 25th March. Please be at the show ring by 9am for the fleece awards.
