In Breed Shows, alpaca are judged on their fleece (60%), conformation (35%) and presentation (5%). There are 4 types of shows and 4 types of schedules.

SHOWS

Fleece Show

Fleece may be up to 24 months of age from shearing, so long as it has no more than 15 months of growth for Huacaya and 36 months of growth for Suri and is from a registered animal.

 

Full Fleece Breed Show

Huacaya fleece length; a recommended minimum of 50mm with no maximum. Must be shorn within 15 months of the show.

Suri fleece length; a recommended minimum of 50mm with no maximum. Must be shorn within 36 months of the show.

 

Short Fleece Breed Show

Huacaya fleece length; a recommended minimum of 30mm with a maximum of 60mm.

 

Composite Show

Animals are to be shorn within 60 days of the show.

 

SCHEDULES

Age Group Championship

Classes shall be defined by age. Championships are awarded in age groups. These age group champions go forward to be judged for Supreme Champion. An Age Group schedule may include Colour Championships to be judged following the Supreme Championship award.

 

Colour Championship

Classes are defined by age. Championships are awarded for each colour group. 

 

Composite Championship

Classes are defined by age. A fleece class, a conformation only class and a composite class are available. Conformation only class has place ribbons only. There are no championship ribbons for conformation only. All entries in the composite class must also have its fleece entered into the fleece class. Fleeces however, may be entered in the fleece class only as a separate competition. Championships are awarded in either age group or colour group.

 

Colourbration Championship

Classes are defined by age. A supreme is awarded in each colour group.
