To the 2012 sponsors of the Sheffield show, it has just been brought to our attention that when the A & P Assoc shedule went to print they mistakenly printed the 2011 sponsors...  I am so sorry about this mistake and I asure you that the show catalogue will show your sponsor names correctly. Shirley

Judges Profiles

Sarah Busby

Hawkes Bay
06 874 8086
Sarah Busby and her husband Peter run Gilt Edge Alpacas in Hawkes Bay where they specialise in white huacaya alpacas. Sarah has a background in research science and has always had a hands-on approach to all the facets of her life. Sarah enjoys the objectivity of fleece judging and also enjoys the experience of marrying the touch of a fleece with its visual characteristics. She set out to become a specialist fleece-only judge when she entered the apprentice judge scheme in 2007 as she realised that fleece judging would be her passion. She trained alongside Australian and New Zealand Judges and has continued to up-skill by visiting Huacaya and Suri Breeders both in NZ and Australia too. Sarah is keen to encourage anyone to put their fleeces into shows as the experience can offer members a learning opportunity. When you get your fleece back from the show, lay it out and go through the scorecard, try to see why the Judge has marked it the way they did, be objective and really see and touch the fleece all over. Even if you do not score very highly, you can still love your alpaca and learn from the results. It cannot fail to help you make more informed breeding decisions.

Kevin together with his wife Lesley have been farming Alpacas in Swannanoa, North Canterbury NZ since 1998 under the stud name of Starlight Alpacas.

Kevin has been an active member of the Alpaca Association New Zealand (AANZ) for several years. He has held the position of chairperson of the AANZ Show Sub-Committee for a period of over 2.5 years and regularly stewards at A&P shows throughout New Zealand. He recently was Chairperson of the AANZ Judges Group.

An active member of the working group, which organised and ran the three National Alpaca Expos in the South Island in 2004, 2006 and 2008. His skills as a judge were used to help select and shortlist those alpacas offered for the Inaugural National Alpaca Auction, which was part of the Expo in 2006 and again for the Expo in 2010.

Kevin is dedicated to improving the quality of the New Zealand Alpaca through selective breeding and sound farm management practice.

He enjoys talking about alpacas to those new to the industry and has been involved in the training of Apprentice Judges, stewards and new exhibitors wanting to show their alpacas.

Kevin has been judging alpacas since 2006. His most memorable and rewarding judging appointment being at the NZ Royal A&P Show in Christchurch in 2007, where he co-judged the Alpaca Fleeces and breed with Julie Bird from Australia.
