General Information

The Hawkes Bay show takes place each year on the Thursday (fleece) and Friday (breed) prior to Labour Day Holiday in late October. This year the dates are Thursday 20th October and Breed Friday 21st October. We are thrilled to have Molly Gardner as our Judge. Molly is a specialist Suri breeder but has a passion for all alpacas. She brings a natural style to the ring when she judges, her oral reasoning is fresh and easy to understand and very informative. We are running a colour Championship schedule whereby each colour in both Huacaya and Suri compete against each other to select the Champion and reserve Champion in that colour. We are continuing to separate of White from Light Fawn to make a stand-alone Light Fawn Colour Championship. When entering your animals remember that if there is a light fawn blush on the top of the head and/or along the top-line, your animal is classed as light fawn. If in doubt please get a colour check done prior to the start of the show.

The after-show event is a casual 'wine and cheese' that will be held ringside so we hope you can stay for a short while after the showing has finished.

We are hoping for a fine warm sunny Hawkes Bay day but whatever the weather you are assured of a warm welcome to the show. If you wish to bring your alpacas and stable them at the grounds the day before the breed show please contact me so I can explain the arrangements.

Show season is fast upon us and closing dates are just around the corner. As convenor for the Hawkes Bay show I am writing to encourage you to take part once again in our Alpaca show. We run both breed and fleece shows, the breed show is a full fleece colour championship, and the fleece section is a standard age group schedule. We have already received entries for this year from the southern-most tip of the south island and we are hoping that our show is well and truly on your radar too.
I have attached copies of the schedule, entry forms and fleece delivery notes which you can use to submit your entries.
Our Judge this year is Molly Gardner. Molly brings her natural style and enthusiasm to the show ring and her oral reasoning always reflects her passion for alpacas.

Our A & P committee are extremely generous and support our section by paying to bring in and host our judge, provide ribbons and perpetual trophies for Supreme Suri, Supreme Huacaya and for Champion Suri fleece and Champion Huacaya fleece. They also offer good hospitality for our stewards and helpers alike.

Each year we need to raise a small amount of money to cover sundry items and we do this by offering sponsorship opportunities.

Pens will be available from late on Thursday afternoon for any of you who travel long distances to the show and there is security in operation after hours to give you peace of mind.

Fleeces that are being exhibited at the Expo will be brought to HB free of charge and those fleeces heading onwards to the Waikato show will be collected from HB and taken to Waikato fress of charge too. Any questions at all, please don't hesitate to email me.
